Melanie and Tony. Day 1.

👫

Melanie

1. Tell us about your day!

Tony (yay!! I finally know his name!) and I both woke up earlier than we planned--too excited to sleep! On my way to the restaurant where I was meeting him for brunch, I got his number and called right away (should I lie and say I pulled over to start the call cause that's safer? Sorry Mom...). It was so fun to chat and MEET! Breakfast was yummy and we were immediately comfortable. I don't think people at the restaurant (Eggs in the City, so yummy!) could tell we started the day as strangers. We decided we weren't done talking, so we headed to Red Butte Gardens and loved walking around and smelling the flowers (literally, he paused almost ever time and kept getting pollen all over his nose. Adorable)

2. Tell us about your bae. What was your first impression?

Ohhhh Tony has a video we recorded, so he probably included that in his log where we talk about first impressions. But he was so fun, so easy to talk to and be myself around, physically, emotionally, etc.

3. Would you have gone out with your bae on another date if you had met before TDB?

This was something I kept thinking about on the date. I noticed there were things we talked about or moments that happened where I previously might have said "eh, maybe I don't care to invest" but I consciously told myself "those things don't really matter, you two get along great and you're doing this for 30 more days. So get over the unimportant stuff"

Right away I can see how often I probably have cut off a good thing for silly reasons.

4. Scale from 1-10 how would you rate your chemistry?

I don't know how to answer. I guess today is the chemistry baseline? There were moments when I felt teeny butterflies and I was glad when we held hands, so I think 6? (Just so it isn't a 5). I don't know, we were strangers so anything is more than yesterday.

5. Emoji to describe the day?

How about a screenshot? We decided we want to come up with any other term of endearment besides bae (we get why you use it, we just don't want to on a day to day.) We've been brainstorming ideas:

1. Tell us about your day!

7:00: My body throws me out of bed because apparently, I am like a child on Christmas Day and can't wait for my date!

9:45: After getting ready, I record a brief video about my pre-date thoughts and feelings.

10:25: I get to the restaurant, Eggs in the City, and sit in my car listening to some Ed Sheeran while I wait for Davi to text me Melanie's number.

10:28: Melanie calls me and I finally learn her name. Then we make comments about how she was parking her car 😂 (It was a weird parking spot, but she did great!)

10:30: We embrace each other with youthful exuberance.

10:34: We end the embrace  😂

11:00: We eat bomb food and talk like old friends! Seriously. It was weird how easy the conversation came.

11:45: We frolic through the Red Butte botanical garden and then we both learn that Tony sniffs flowers very aggressively and gets upset when they don't have a scent. There were several times I got pollen on my nose and Melanie had to wipe it off! Little did she know that after the first time she brushed the pollen off, I kept doing it on purpose so she would have to keep cleaning it off! #skillz #iwishthatwasactuallytrue

12:30: We found a nice wooden bench swing under beautiful dead vines and talked some more. We tried to plan for the week, but we kept getting distracted because the conversation was seriously that good.

1:15: We parted ways  😊

2. Tell us about your bae. What was your first impression?

She's hot

Aside from what I said in the impressions video we made, I was very impressed with her. She is intelligent, kind, and hilarious. Quality time/quality conversation is definitely my top love language and so I really felt a connection when we could so easily talk about any topic. Something that I find very attractive is when someone shows interest in a topic even if they don't know much about it. There is a level of curiosity that I find very important. So when I brought up quantum physics and my thoughts on dark matter, her response was "Oh wow, I don't know much about that but I am excited to learn!" Such a good response! Because in that moment, I learned that she is someone that I could learn and grow with.

3. Would you have gone out with your bae on another date if you had met before TDB?

Absolutely. Not only do we have many of the same interests, but the conversation was so natural and comfortable. I am really looking forward to getting to know her better!

4. Scale from 1-10 how would you rate your chemistry?

Seven. It would be a 10 but I know that we still have more chemistry to create and I want to leave room for growth
