Melinda and Jake. Day 6.

“So yeah, we kissed.”

Melinda

1. Tell us about your day.

I would have kissed him sooner tonight, but about a quarter of the way into the movie, Jake’s roommate came home and watched it with us (read the room, man). But... then Jake walked me out and kissed me on the porch. So yeah, we kissed.

So normally I wouldn’t have kissed him yet. It’s important to me that I’m sure what I’m saying physically matches what I'm thinking and feeling. And maybe I still don’t know what I’m thinking and feeling because maybe it changes hourly. But talking with a few friends (including Bae Melanie — yeah, we met less than a week ago, but insta-boyfriend, insta-friend, what’s the difference?) who reminded me that:

-without the physical, it’s hard to set a relationship apart from friendships

-physical intimacy increases attraction

-thirty day bae is the opportunity to try dating differently

Sooo…. Yeah!

2. What’s something you learned about your bae so far that has surprised you?

He wrote a book of poems for his family for Christmas. That was definitely surprising. (Interestingly, my Dad did that two years ago — is this a normal thing people do or is it really a coincidence?)

3. How do your friends feel about you doing this?

My friends are pretty thrilled about it. They’ve also been so kind to me because while on one hand, I’ve gotten a little exhausted answering the thoughtful questions and support that I’ve been showered with, I’ve still been pretty attention-needy from my close friends. They’re kind to let me talk the crap out of everything, even when I’m being irrational. Also, let’s be real: They just think it’s been too long since I’ve kissed someone (they weren't wrong...) so they’re very supportive.

Jake

1. Tell us about your day.

Well, I smooched her. Yesterday I was trying to figure out if I should and I honestly wasn't planning on it tonight but the opportunity was there and the pheromones were flyin! So I just decided it's gotta happen sooner or later so why not? It was good. It wasn't anything fancy but it was good.

Here's the whole story: She came over and we watched some of the Warrior's Blazers game which ended tragically. And we talked about books for a while. I wrote a poetry book for my family for Christmas this last year and she likes poetry so I showed it to her. She wasn't impressed. haha I thought she'd want to read a lot of them and see if there were any she really liked but it seemed painful for her to read them. She read a few of them and I could tell she didn't want to read anymore. I kind of felt dumb, which isn't a new feeling for me. It's part of being vulnerable right? Put yourself out there, show parts of who you are written down in a poetic format and have someone look like they'd rather jump out a window than read one more of these parts of you. haha I'm being a little overly dramatic but people love drama right?! So now you're wondering after that rejection why would you kiss her? Hold your horses, I'm getting to it. So our conversation eventually lead to talking about virtual reality and I asked her if she'd seen Ready Player One? She said, "no." And I hadn't seen it either so I was like, "should we watch it?" and she said, "ya!" Maybe she was just stoked to do anything to get away from my poetry. haha I feel like you think my poems sucked really bad right now yes I'm talking to you, the person reading this, and I don't think they do, they're just basic and not super sophisticated which I think that's what she's all about but she did laugh at several of them because some were funny. Anyways! We watched the movie and afterwards it was midnight and I was pretty tired and we talked about the movie for a little bit then she had to go so I walked her out to my front porch and we hugged and then as we pulled away from it she had that look in her eye that said, "Kiss me." Her mouth didn't say that, just her eyes did. And one thing about me is the later at night it gets the better idea everything sounds to me. So I laid one on her! And it was good. Not as good as my poems but it was good.

2. What’s something you learned about your bae so far that has surprised you?

She freakin hates my poetry. Which is fine because I'm not a poet, I'm a comedian. I'm over it. haha for reals I'm done talking about that dumb poetry book. I'm acting like it really bothered but it was mostly just funny to me how she reacted to it. I'm done talking about my poetry book.

3. How do your friends feel about you doing this?

They love my poetry. haha jk jk Ummm they have pretty varying opinions about it. Some say they could never do that. Most of them are fascinated by this and want to know everything about it.
